Dopamine Replacement Therapy

In this course we discuss whether, when, why, and how a person with parkinsonism should approach dopamine replacement therapy.

Do you build up a tolerance?

Can you overdose?

What brands and products are most effective?

This course all this and more.

What about Mucuna?

Mucuna, or velvet bean, is a plant that contains l-dopa naturally. When symptoms are mild, some people are able to treat their symptoms with mucuna. We'll discuss the pros, cons, and considerations surrounding mucuna use in parkinsonism.

Dyskinesia

While dyskinesia is a very real side effect that we all work to minimize, the "fear of dyskinesia" is more of a problem to Parkinson management that dyskinesia itself!

Honeymoon Period

Quality of life is SO important. If you delay your use of dopamine, you don't postpone the honeymoon period, you just miss out on it.

Rollercoaster

Dopamine repletion is far from perfect. Fo most people, most of the time, the benefits are short-lived and navigating ON and OFF is a rollercoaster most would prefer to avoid.
